This week, we shine the spotlight on Kresensia, a corporate legal professional who has recently embarked on an exciting entrepreneurial venture, driven by her passion for books and self-actualisation.
A Legal Career with an Entrepreneurial Spark
Kresensia’s professional background is deeply rooted in the legal field. After graduating, she built her career as a corporate legal consultant, working in both media and manufacturing industries. Despite her success, she felt a strong pull toward something beyond her legal expertise. “Having a legal background shaped my perspective about business, but it also made me question everything, including my own potential,” she shared.
For years, she battled self-doubt and external scepticism about whether she could step outside the legal profession and build something of her own. But that inner voice pushing her toward something different grew louder. “Sometimes, people’s opinions make you feel small. But I realised I have skills beyond what my degree defines,” she said.
A Passion for Books Becomes a Business
In December 2024, Kresensia officially launched her book-selling business. A self-proclaimed book lover, she saw an opportunity to share her passion with others in a world increasingly dominated by digital distractions. “I still prefer reading hard-copy books, and I wanted to create a space where people could appreciate them as much as I do,” she explained.
Though the venture is still in its early days, Kresensia has already attracted customers - an achievement she’s incredibly proud of. “It’s exciting when someone asks about my book collection, and even more thrilling when they make a purchase.” Running the business alone (with occasional help from her mother), she’s handling everything from sales and marketing to customer service. Her efforts have already paid off, earning her shop a five-star rating.
Lessons from Entrepreneurship
Transitioning from corporate legal work to running a business has been a learning curve. Kresensia has discovered valuable lessons along the way, with the biggest being self-belief. “People will always have opinions about what you should or shouldn’t do. But if you have strong values and principles - and the right support system - you can stand firm and carve your own path.”
She also credits WONDR for giving her the confidence to start. “I’ve been part of WONDR for six months, attending workshops and learning from other entrepreneurs. That inspired me to apply what I’ve learned and take action.”
The Power of Community and Resilience
For Kresensia, entrepreneurship has been about more than just selling books - it’s been a journey of self-discovery and resilience. She emphasises the importance of surrounding yourself with people who uplift you. “I have a small circle of close friends who always support me, no matter what. That kind of encouragement is crucial.”
Like any entrepreneur, she has faced challenges, including slow sales periods that tested her confidence. But she remains optimistic, leaning on faith and perseverance. “One night, after a particularly rough week, I simply asked the universe for help. That same night, I got a notification - someone had bought three books. That felt like a miracle to me.”
Looking Ahead
Kresensia has big plans for her business. She aims to expand her book collection, collaborate with publishers, and grow her audience through social media. Balancing her corporate job with her business is no small feat, but she’s embracing the “double life” of a professional and entrepreneur with determination.
Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? “It’s okay to start from scratch. It’s okay to rebuild yourself. Stay true to your values, block out the noise, and keep moving forward.”
