When Diana Zaheer answers a question, she doesn’t just respond - she invites you into a story. Her journey from teenage journalist to spiritual teacher and healer isn’t a straight line, but rather, as she describes it, a mosaic. It’s a path built on deep listening, honest reflection, and a pivotal moment that changed everything.
The Early Days: A Love for Stories and Truth
Diana’s professional life began unusually early. As a high school student, she worked in a busy newsroom as a “copy girl,” learning the fast-paced rhythm of journalism in the days before laptops and smartphones. Reporters phoned in stories from payphones, and Diana, a fast and accurate typist, transcribed them under deadline pressure.
“Newspaper writing is formulaic,” she explains. “But I loved it. I was doing something high school kids normally didn’t do.”
That love of storytelling led her to journalism school and into a reporting career. But amid the bylines and scoops, her heart began to nudge her toward something deeper.
A Defining Moment
The turning point came with a phone call.
While covering a tragic car accident that killed a beloved high school football player, Diana had to call the coach for a quote. “He was such an elegant man,” she recalls. “He put the phone down - probably to collect himself - and then came back and gave me a beautiful quote.”
The story was strong. She met her deadline. But something shifted inside her.
“I realised I didn’t want to be the one calling him. I wanted to be the one sitting beside him when he put the phone down.”
That moment cracked something open. She began following her heart more than her headline, turning toward psychology, healing, and spiritual study - a direction she’s followed ever since.
A Life in Service of Healing
For over 30 years, Diana has been running Inner Harbor Teachings, working with people around the world to help them reconnect with their true selves and soften the harsh voices within. Her work blends spiritual traditions, therapeutic insight, and a deeply intuitive understanding of human nature.
She’s currently focused on writing her first book - a culmination of decades of teaching and guidance. “I’ve realised that what I’ve been doing all these years is actually a coherent approach,” she says. “The book will be the touchstone that maps that approach for others.”
Writing it, she admits, is like a love affair. “You have to visit it, cherish it, spend time with it. And I’ve been neglecting it. But now, I’m all in.”
The Joys and Challenges of Entrepreneurship
Diana’s entrepreneurial life is far from corporate. It’s intuitive, collaborative, and constantly evolving. “I love the freedom,” she says. “I can respond to what’s happening in real time. I’m not tied to a mission statement on a wall - I’m living my mission every day.”
But entrepreneurship isn’t without its challenges. “There’s often not enough of me to go around,” she laughs. “I think every founder feels that at some point.”
Her biggest challenge? Prioritisation. With so many exciting threads and collaborators, focus can be elusive. “It requires humility,” she admits. “Sometimes I think, ‘It would’ve been great to do this five years ago.’ But now is the moment, so I stay with it.”
Staying Motivated When It’s Hard
Diana doesn’t sugarcoat the journey. She acknowledges the hard days - but sees them differently than most.
“Even the tough moments are part of the flow,” she explains. “Stagnation is what feels heavy to me. As long as there’s movement, I’m motivated.”
She speaks about change as a constant companion. “It’s the nature of reality,” she says. “If something’s stuck, stay tuned. It won’t stay that way.”
Her Best Advice? Be Kind to Yourself
If there’s one message Diana wants new entrepreneurs to hear, it’s this: Be gentle with yourself.
“You’re going to get consumed and compelled. Make sure you sleep. Drink water. Move your body. And above all, don’t get stuck being mean to yourself.”
That self-kindness isn’t just a nice idea - it’s the foundation of her work. She lights up when she speaks of watching people transform through it.
“When someone begins to soften that internal criticism and becomes friends with themselves, it’s incredible. They start moving toward what truly matters to them. I feel so proud, even if I’m not their mother!” she laughs.
Looking Ahead
With her first book underway and a growing body of work behind her, Diana is stepping into a new phase - one of clarity, form, and deeper service. She’s excited to put her approach into language and share it more widely.
“I never set out to create a ‘method,’ but here it is. And now it’s time to give it shape and offer it to others in a way that can really support their inner journey.”
Diana Zaheer is a guide for those seeking self-kindness, clarity, and healing. Her story is a reminder that sometimes the most important pivot isn’t a business strategy - it’s the moment you choose to follow your heart.
